BEACHED
An empty beach and a battered pier. COVID-19 is here.
As artists, sometimes solitude is a place where we create our greatest work. I want you to take this time to reflect on your body of work, your accomplishments, and your failures. Embrace the work that makes you happy, move on from the work that does not. Create for you. Create for good. Create for the future.
Your friend and fellow artist,
Brian James

SUSAN HESS
URBAN NEST
“You don't know what you've got 'Til it's gone”
While waiting for the drawbridge near my home I noticed a bird had made a nest on the traffic light so, I quickly took a photo through my windshield. As I watched it I thought how odd it was and it somehow reminded of the song, Big Yellow Taxi by Joni Mitchell. The lyrics are “they paved Paradise and put up a parking lot… took all the trees and put them in a tree museum”.
The painting is a reminder that our decisions affect the environment and we need to think ahead of what the consequences of our actions might be. Because as the song also says, “Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got 'Til it's gone”!
